Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

2007 Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards

The Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED) is inviting organisations that have made outstanding achievements in promoting environmental management and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific to apply for the 2007 Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards. Winners will be presented with monetary awards. These awards are the Gold Prize (US$20,000), two Silver Prizes (US$7,000) and five Incentive Prizes (US$2,000).

The award has been renamed "The 2007 Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards for Good Practices" in honour of the late Mr. Ryutaro Hashimoto, former Prime Minister of Japan and first APFED Chair.
The Awards programme aims not only to honour the winners but also to build-up a knowledge base of good practices with the objective of sharing the lessons learned and knowledge gained for promoting sustainable development in the region.

Criteria

  • methodologies, approaches and designs;
  • implementation modalities (ability to withstand conventional challenges);
  • application of innovative technologies;
  • stakeholder mobilisation/participation and partnership development;
  • cost-effectiveness (cost-benefit sharing schemes);
  • environmental and socio-economic impacts in the context of promoting sustainable development/improving sustainability; and
  • durability and self-reliance (perspectives for long-term continuation).

Application Guidelines

  1. Applications must be signed by the authorised representative of the organisation that plays a primary role in managing activities.
  2. The award will be given only to organisations and not to individuals.
  3. Applicants must agree with the conditions set forth in the "Selection Criteria & Process" page, whereby the prize money will be used to support activities to promote the information dissemination of good practices with a view to facilitating the replication of such practices in other countries or areas.
  4. Requirements in completing the application form: Standard British English and Times New Roman font and length of approximately three (3) pages. Clarify any copyright issues. The APFED Secretariat reserves the right to make editorial improvement in disseminating information contained in the application.
