Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Author

SummaryText
The "Maisha Bora" (Healthy Lives) Curriculum offers life skills-based HIV prevention education for young people and was designed as a guide for peer educators to promote sexual and reproductive health knowledge and positive healthy behaviours.

Published by the International Youth Foundation, the manual was developed in recognition of the fact that "young people are one of the most vulnerable groups who account for the greater percentage of new HIV infections. However, when young people are provided with the right information and relevant life skills and living values, they become an important stimulus for peer and societal behaviour change."

The manual contains five modules:
  • Module 1 Introducing the program and ground setting
  • Module 2 Risk, values and attitudes
  • Module 3 Imparting knowledge
  • Module 4 Developing skills
  • Module 5 Action planning, report writing, evaluation and close
