Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

ENGAGINGMEN.NET

0 comments
Launched in November 2010, ENGAGINGMEN.NET is an interactive website for people around the world who are committed to gender justice and ending violence against women. It is designed for practitioners, policymakers, academics, and all who are interested in working with women and men in partnership for gender equality and addressing the negative consequences of unequal power relationships. Engaging boys and men is a strategy that is central to the content of this site, but the ultimate goals are gender equality, peace, and justice.
Communication Strategies

ENGAGINGMEN.NET is a portal which has a theoretical focus on men, gender, and masculinities and a practical focus on initiatives that encourage boys' and men's involvement and support of women's empowerment, ending violence, and work towards healthy relationships for all. Features of ENGAGINGMEN.NET include:

  • An online library of resources about engaging men in gender equality, including toolkits, manuals, research reports, etc.;
  • News and upcoming events: a space to spread the word about latest news and upcoming events and to learn about what others are doing;
  • Blogs: a space to share thoughts about anything to do with gender justice;
  • Discussion forums: a place to ask questions, get answers, and have discussions with other members on topics such as "Perceptions of 'working with boys and men' vs. understanding masculinities to address patriarchy";
  • Regional pages: a way to connect with others in any particular region;
  • Topic pages: topic-based groups on capacity development, campaigning and advocacy, and research; and
  • Videos and photos: a place for viewing and sharing videos and photos addressing questions such as "What are masculinities? Why should we care?"
