Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Youth-Friendly Services: A Manual for Service Providers

SummaryText
Developed by EngenderHealth, this manual is designed to strengthen theskills of health workers who provide reproductive health services toadolescent clients. It aims to enable staff to assess their own beliefs aboutadolescent sexuality while ensuring that their values and attitudes donot compromise the basic sexual and reproductive health needs of youngpeople.

According to EngenderHealth, "although existing tools address adolescent reproductive health, this is the first simple training tool that can be easily adapted to different situations and addresses provider and site bias toward young people. By the end of any of these trainings, participants will havethe knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to provide high-qualitySRH counseling within their own work setting. Providers will be betterable to help clients assess their own needs for a range of SRH services, provide appropriate information and emotional support, and help clientsmake more realistic decisions about their sexual and reproductivehealth. In turn, clients will have developed the skills they need tocarry out those decisions."

Founded in 1943, EngenderHealth is a nonprofit organisation that hasbeen working internationally for more than 30 years to support andstrengthen reproductive health services for women and men worldwide.
