Oslo Challenge - Global
The Oslo Challenge was launched on 20 Nov. 1999 the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child by the Norwegian Government and UNICEF. It is a call to everyone engaged in exploring, developing, monitoring, defining, directing and participating in the complex relationship between children and the media to ensure that the overwhelming power of the media for good in the lives of children is identified, encouraged and supported, while the potential harmful effects are recognized and reduced.
Communication Strategies
Activities of the initiative include: The production of a resource pack containing awareness-raising, training and other materials for operational agencies to become active in exploring and developing the relationship between children and the media; Development of mechanisms to encourage and nurture relationships between young people and the agencies who work for their rights, the media and decision-makers in governments and industry; Development of networks of people from many different sectors who are committed to working together to develop the relationship between children and the media and to meet the Oslo Challenge.
