Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The TechNet Resource Library (TRL) is an online repository of journal articles, documents, tools, videos, websites, and other immunisation resources.

As of this writing, the TRL contains over 1,500 resources in all areas of immunisation, with over 800 in immunisation information systems (IIS). For example, a series of short videos describes the impact of different information systems projects on the performance of national immunisation programmes. Each video explains the context in which a particular system was deployed, how it works, and what the impact has been. Members can add their own resources to the TRL, as well as comment on and discuss resources. Members can create their own collections of particular resources and share these collections with others. For example, this collection brings together useful background information on replacing trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) with bivalent OPV.

Searching or browsing the TRL is straightforward. Keywords such as "polio" can be combined with search filters such as document type (journal article, video, website, etc.), language, year of publication, author, disease, and country to display only the most relevant resources. The option to search for or filter results by tag (such as OPV, inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), etc.) is designed to make it even easier to locate resources.

The TRL is part of the TechNet-21 website. TechNet-21 is a global network of immunisation professionals committed to strengthening immunisation services by sharing experiences, coordinating activities, and helping formulate policies. Membership is free of charge; click here for more information.

The TechNet-21 website offers the following features:

  • FORUM - An online space for users to share experiences, coordinate activities, and discuss recent developments in immunisation.
  • NEWS - Information on the latest immunisation news, new job and proposal listings, and an immunisation events diary.
  • RESOURCES - A repository of journal articles, documents, tools, videos, websites, and other immunisation resources.
  • REVIEWS - A database of reviews of World Health Organization (WHO) performance, quality, and safety (PQS)-prequalified immunisation equipment submitted by TechNet-21 members.

TechNet-21 members come together every two years for the TechNet Consultation, a chance to meet and discuss the latest developments in immunisation practices and policy. The most recent TechNet Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2015 and was attended by over 250 delegates. The next TechNet Conference will take place in 2017.
