Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

To support the development of quality journalism, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has developed a set of online training resources available to their membership.  Within the Training section of the SPJ website, a variety of tools and training topics are available to users.

Included among the links are upcoming conference and events lists, information on in-person training opportunities, online tips and tutorials, links to research sources, and skills training.  For example, SPJ On Demand sessions are available to all SPJ members at any time, included as part of SPJ membership, and provide video training on these topics:

  • Freelancing - creating opportunities and making business decisions
  • Acquiring records - how to access public records, understanding Freedom of Information Act (FOI) laws, and how to approach making requests for information
  • Video techniques and using social media to connect with audiences
  • Using search engines, blogs, video, and social media to collect and sort information effectively and efficiently

SPJ membership is required to access parts of the training resources, such as SPJ On Demand sessions.

The website also includes a link to the organisation's sign-up area.  Click here to be directed to that page.
