Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This handbook, published by Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) for an Alliance Zambia project, offers a training curriculum designed to increase understanding of how sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) are relevant to organisations working in the HIV field, and how these aspects can be integrated into programmes. As stated in the handbook, there are always concerns when it comes to 'integrating' something, with questions such as "does this not just mean more work?". The handbook is designed to highlight feasible ways of integrating SRHR and MNCH into HIV programmes. It makes the point that this is not a small task, but, one should bear in mind that the HIV epidemic calls for strong and innovative action, and that by integrating SRHR and MNCH organisations have the potential to reduce the impact this disease is having on communities in Zambia.

The handbook gives guidance for four days of training with each day broken up into four to six sessions. In the Annex, the handbook also includes support documents that can be handed out during the training sessions.
