Concern Worldwide Creative Writing Competition

The Concern Worldwide Creative Writing Competition is open to students aged 12 years old and older, as well as adults, who would like to share their essays. The competition is focused around imagining that you are a journalist, stationed in a developing country, writing for an internationally renowned newspaper. Your editor has asked you to write a 1,000 word article on one of the following topics:

• Living on less than US$2 a day in the developing world
• Imagining the future of a child born today in the developing world
  
• Important lessons we can learn from the developing world
  

The competition is sponsored by Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organisation working to reduce suffering and eliminate extreme poverty in the world’s economically poorest countries.

There are four categories in the writing competition;

1. Junior: 12 to 15 years
2. Senior: 16 to 18 years
3. College: full- or part-time student in college or university
4. Adult: 19+ years not enrolled in a college or university

In each category, first prize is a netbook; second prize is an e-reader; and third prize is an MP3 player. Winning and selected articles will be included in the Concern Creative Writing Competition book to be published by Liffey Press.
