Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Asia-Pacific Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Media Awards honour distinguished reporting on the
MDGs by producers and journalists in print, radio
and television covering the Asia-Pacific region. The Awards aim to generate better awareness and understanding of the MDGs in the Asia-Pacific region, and motivate journalists from the region to cover stories on how MDGs are being pursued there. Click here for a list of the MDGs and information about them from the United Nations.

The Awards will be given in 3 categories:

  • Tracking progress on the MDGs in your country;
  • Human Face of MDGs; and
  • Changes needed in achieving the MDGs.

The 1st prize winner for each category receives US$7,000 plus a trophy and certificate, and the runner-up US$2,000, a trophy and a certificate. Deadline for all entries is now April 15 2007 extended from March 25 2007. The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) acts as the secretariat for the Awards, which are made possible through the cooperation and assistance of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
